What We Believe

We believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and
truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. It is the basis for any statement of faith. The scriptures reveal the principles by which all human conduct should be carried out.

We accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God as the ultimate authority in matters of faith, doctrine, and Christian living (2 Timothy 3:15-16). We accept “The Baptist Faith and Message” as most recenly adopted on June 14, 2000 by the Southern Baptist Convention as an affirmation of our basic Christian beliefs and as a general statement of faith; in addition, the following statement represents our convictions regarding marriage, gender, and sexuality.

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male and female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the unity of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other; therefore, the facilities of Midway Baptist Church will not be used for same sex marriages, or any other union not supported in God’s Word.

We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Midway Baptist Church.

Our History
